Finch Computing Participates in Inaugural Global Open Banking Hackathon

December 6, 2017

Reston, VA – Finch Computing, a division of Qbase, LLC, today announced that its powerful, real-time text analytics software, Finch for Text®, will be used by more than 400 developers, data scientists and programmers as part of the first-ever Global Open Banking Hackathon, hosted by CapGemini, a worldwide leader in consulting, technology services and digital transformation.

“We’re incredibly excited to have been invited to participate, and to make our text analytics API available to the teams competing in this event,” Finch Computing Chief Technology Officer Scott Lightner said. “We’ve seen time and again the need for better, faster, more complex text analytics in the enterprise, and we’re eager to see the banking-centric solutions the teams come up with.”

Finch for Text uses natural language processing, machine-learning and proprietary algorithms to turn human-generated text into something a machine can read – in real-time and at huge scales. As such, it has tremendous utility for the developers participating in this hackathon as they work to build applications that help banks create new and better experiences for their customers, build new products, rethink their revenue models and disrupt industry ecosystems.

Specifically, participants have been challenged to utilize the software available to them via the hackathon and open source tools to build applications that add value to the banking sector. As a back-end, developer-facing tool Finch for Text® can be a huge accelerator for an application demanding a fast and accurate understanding of a large volume of human-generated text. In a financial context, this can include things like news coverage, analyst research and reports, message or email traffic, transcribed earnings calls or customer service interactions, to name a few.

Participants in the hackathon include developers from around the world. The event takes place December 8 through December 10, with more than $10,000 in prizes. Judges include senior executives from major commercial and investment banks, leaders from throughout the financial community, and technology innovators in the areas of big data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
